Hero Port: Why We Chose a Wire in a Wireless World
Reserve now
Hero Port turns compatible tablets and mobile devices into responsive wired displays for Hero—without relying on Wi-Fi screen mirroring.
Wireless technology is convenient.
But convenience isn’t always the same thing as reliability.
When we began developing Hero, we faced an important question:
If a tablet is going to become someone’s primary Windows display, how should the computer connect to it?
We chose a wire.
Deliberately.
Why Hero Port is wired
Wireless screen sharing is useful when occasional convenience matters more than consistency.
Hero needed something different.
When your tablet or mobile device is acting as your computer’s display, the connection needs to feel immediate and dependable—whether you’re at home, in an office, in a hotel, or somewhere with poor Wi-Fi.
Hero Port provides a direct wired video connection between Hero and compatible mobile devices.
The result is a zero-latency display, without depending on fast or reliable Wi-Fi.
No network to join.
No strong Wi-Fi signal required.
Connect and work.
Proprietary technology. Standard connection.
Hero Port uses USB-C and works with standard data-capable USB-C cables.
For the best experience, we recommend the included Hero cable, which supports 20 Gbps and is shielded to help minimize interference with Hero’s Bluetooth connection.
No proprietary cable required. Just one optimized for the job.
The Hero App makes the display interactive
Getting Windows video onto a tablet is only part of the experience.
Modern tablets and mobile devices also provide sophisticated input capabilities, including touch and, on compatible devices, stylus input.
The Hero App, available for iPadOS 17+ and Android 7+, brings these pieces together.
Video travels through Hero Port’s wired connection, while touch and stylus input are communicated separately through Bluetooth Low Energy.
That architecture is intentional.
Wired video for responsiveness and consistency. Wireless input for interaction. One app bringing the experience together.
Why not make everything wireless?
Because our objective wasn’t to eliminate every cable.
It was to create the better experience.
Sometimes wireless is better. Sometimes a direct connection is faster, more predictable, and more dependable.
At Hero Devices, we’re less interested in which technology sounds more futuristic than in which technology works better for the person using it.
For Hero Port, that means one USB-C cable, a zero-latency display, no dependence on Wi-Fi—and the ability to turn a compatible tablet or mobile device you already own into the screen for your Windows PC.
That’s why, in a wireless world, we chose a wire.
